Frequently Asked Questions

What age can someone become a Licensed Referee? You need to be 13 years old per US Soccer to create an account on US Soccer Learning Center and Sign up for a Course.

My child is under 16 years old, do they need a work permit? CLICK HERE IL Department of Labor Requirements & Instructions

What are the specifics for Child Labor Law for 13 year old? CLICK HERE

Where can I find Assignments for the Course I am registered for? Login into your US Soccer Learning Center Account, Click on "Courses" at the top of the screen, click on "My Courses", next to the Course click on "Resume" and then on the Course page under the Course name scroll over the Header "Assignments" DO NOT LOOK AT DASHBOARD FOR ASSIGNMENTS!

What Color Referee Shirt should I purchase? We recommend Referees start with Yellow Referee Shirt. You should purchase the uniform kit so you receive the Shirt, Short, Socks, Cards, whistle and Assistant Referee Flags.

Do I need to do a Background Check? If you are 18 years old or older you have to do a Background Check. Cost is $24.00 for United States and $75.00 for International and it is good for 2 years.

Do I need to do SafeSport Training? If you are 18 years old or older you have to do SafeSport Training. You can import your certificate number if you have taken recently in your Profile Section under Safe Soccer Section. This training will expire annually.

I am a Licensed Referee but I am on the Suspended List? You can end up on the suspended list if you have an expired Background or SafeSport Training. These will have different expiration dates then your License for many people. US Soccer will email reminders to you when those will be expiring.

I was a Referee previously but took a year off, how do I become a License Referee? US Soccer allows a 3-year window to Recertify. If you are within the 3-year window you can register for a Recertification Course. If you are past the 3-year window then you need to register for the First-Time Referee Course.

I am having issues with online coursework, it will not let me move forward. Troubleshooting Ideas:

  1. The locks are there intentionally; they represent what part of the module the individual has not yet gone through. They will only open in order listed. If the section prior is not fully completed (videos not all watched, icons not all clicked on, questions not all answered correctly), then the next section will not unlock because there is still something the user needs to complete.

  2. Do not use a phone or IPad to complete the modules! A laptop or desktop computer works best.

  3. If you see a picture, click on it. Some of the “play” arrows do not show up clearly. If there is a picture, chances are it’s a video.

  4. Make sure you watch each video completely. Do not try to skip through the video. The system is designed to prevent continuing on if this happens.

  5. Try hitting "refresh" on the web browser

  6. Try deleting all the web browser's temporary files (cookies/cache, etc.)

  7. Google Chrome is the recommended browser. The system does not seem to work as well with other browsers.

  8. Try updating your web browser to the latest version

Try resetting your web browser to its default settings
